Just when you thought you knew the city like the back of your hand, lo and behold, we discover so many new things to do in Nashville that it’s almost difficult to keep track of all of them. Little did you know that Nashville is not simply comprised of good grub and even better music – in fact, this rapidly expanding hub can give you a little taste of everything if you venture out enough. Did you know that you could go stand-up paddle boarding in Nashville or overlook glistening city lights of the skyline? Neither did we, but Nashville is just like that – full of surprises. So here are 5 things you didn’t know you could do in Nashville, all compiled into one easy list, so you can now go out and finally do them.

Go stand-up paddle boarding in Nashville.

Who needs an ocean when you can go stand-up paddle boarding, one of the trendiest sports at the moment, in one of Nashville’s many lakes and rivers? Soak in some sun rays at Percy Priest Lake with Nashville Paddle, which also offers a variety of instructional classes such as Floyo paddleboard yoga. Mix nature views and city sights on a paddleboard ride with Big Willie’s Action Sports, which takes you down the Cumberland River that starts and ends at Riverfront Park on Broadway.

Gaze at the city lights on top of Lover’s Circle.

This spot sits on a big hill, 744 feet above sea level, near Vanderbilt. You have to drive through a small residential neighborhood and up a rather steep hill to get to this little gem of a nook, but it is definitely worth it as you can pretty much see all of Nashville from atop Love Circle. Make sure to bring a partner with you!

Answer the call of nature in THE best bathroom in America.

The 1930’s Art Deco-style men’s bathroom at the Hermitage Hotel in Downtown Nashville was voted “best bathroom” in the US on a number of occasions. The lush bathroom is walled in lime-green-and-black leaded tiles, lime-green fixtures, terrazzo floor, and a gleaming two-seat shoeshine station. Don’t worry ladies – women are allowed in this restroom too due to popular request, so we can all bask in its grandeur.

Check out the Christmas lights at RCA Studio B that Elvis hung up himself.

This famous studio is where Elvis recorded 200+ of his hit tunes, including one of his Christmas albums. However, since he was recording his Christmas album in the summer, he asked the staff to hang up Christmas lights and decorations to help get him into the Christmas spirit. Those lights are still up today, and you can peep them on a tour of the studio.

Drive a real race car at the Super Speedway in Nashville.

The Nashville Superspeedway is actually located in Gladeville, TN, but that’s only a 30-mile drive southeast of Nashville, which is totally worth it if you’re looking to satisfy your need for speed. Nashville Superspeedway was the longest concrete oval in NASCAR during the time it was on the nationwide series, and offers a range of driving packages from the “Taste of Speed” experience (which includes 3 laps) to the “Race Day” experience (which includes a whopping 50 laps). Time to put the pedal to the metal!
