Baby, It’s Cold Outside – Winter in Nashville – Things to Do

Old Man Winter in Nashville is a little unpredictable, but whether he brings snow or sleet or clouds or rain, you can bet there are going to be some days that you’re looking for something warm and dry to do to pass the time. With sports (watching and participating), and games, and yummy consumables all around us, never fear. There’s no need to hibernate. We have plenty of things to do!

Get Bowled Over!

Something about a trip to the bowling alley just feels like a little step back in time, whether it’s a step back to your younger years bowling with friends, or a step all the way back into the 50s with a loud bowling shirt and a cherry coke from the snack bar. Nashville has it’s fair share of bowling alleys, from the trendy Pinewood Social lanes to the vintage Donelson Bowl which was recently named to Historic Nashville’s Nashville Nine endangered properties list for its history and mid-century architecture. Whichever direction you go, bowling is good clean fun to pass the time during winter in Nashville!

Roll Back in Time!

Just as retro as bowling, take a roll back in time and strap on some roller skates. Nashville has skate centers on both the North side and South side of the city. If you prefer being a spectator, check out our local roller derby team, Nashville Rollergirls, who start their preseason activities in February.

Feel the Need for Speed?

In Nashville, there’s no reason to wait for warm sunny days for a go kart racing, thanks to Music City Indoor Karting. Not your average kid’s karts, the Music City Indoor karts are all electric, fume free and reach speeds up to 40 miles an hour! Make a day of it and stick around after racing around the quarter-mile indoor track to play some glow golf and ride the mechanical bull.

Ice, Ice Baby!

Want to get active and get in the winter spirit? Is there any better than ice skating?! Break out the scarves and gloves that Santa brought and visit one of Nashville’s ice skating rinks. Not only can you visit Centennial Sportsplex and Ford Ice Center which are open year round, but thanks in part to the Nashville Predators, you can even ice skate outdoors during the winter in Nashville!

Winter’s Sport.

Speaking of the Predators, why not take in a game?! Nashville’s NHL team plays regularly at Bridgestone Arena, tickets start at a reasonable $30 a piece and nothing says winter time quite like winter’s sport. Let’s go, Preds!!

Brain Games.

Sports aren’t everyone’s cup of tea, so if you’re looking more something to keep your mind sharp during the cold gray days of winter in Nashville, The Escape Game will be right up your alley! Grab some friends and make sure they’re people you’ll enjoy being locked in a room with for an hour because that’s how long you’ll have to solve puzzles to free yourself!

Warm Up with Coffee!

No conversation about what to do during winter in Nashville would complete without mentioning COFFEE! No matter how you decide to pass some of your time, make sure to stop after the day or night’s activities and grab a cup of coffee at one of our MANY locally owned coffee shops. There are a ton to choose from, but this guide from Eater Nashville might help get started on choosing one.
